COUNSELLING AND MEDIATION SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE IN PERSON OR ONLINE
Goals and Process
Goals
1: To immunize families against becoming high-conflict families, by teaching parents to avoid the most common characteristics to keep families in conflict:
-
All-or-nothing thinking
-
Unmanaged emotions
-
Extreme behaviours
-
Blaming

2: To strengthen both parents' abilities to resolve their c0-parenting conflicts and make parenting decisions together, while relying less on the courts and other professionals to make decisions for them.

3: To give parents a chance to change their behaviour, prior to court making long-term orders.

4: to Encourage mediation and other alternative dispute resolution processes that support parents in making co-parenting decisions.

The New Ways for Families Program is formatted into six (6) individual sessions. Each parent received their own workbook and is expected to read each session and attempt the exercises prior to meeting with their coach/counsellor. Each session is approximately fourty-five (45) minutes to one hour in length. Session Six (6) offers an OPTIONAL component for a joint session with both parents.
